Nilpeter to manufacture presses in India
Nilpeter, a narrow web press manufacturer based in Slagelse, Denmark, has announced that it will begin manufacturing flexo presses in India as part of a joint venture with partner Proteck Machinery. The featured press of this partnership is a 13″ servo press with a similar specification to the FB-Line, including rotary screen and cold foil stamping.
Proteck is a manufacturing and distribution company headquartered in Chennai, offering sales and service for Nilpeter in India.
“Nilpeter has a high focus on India – and the entire Asian region. We strongly believe being close to the local markets is the right way to support our industry. We need to nurture our customer base here,” says Peter Eriksen, head of the Indian venture and executive assistant for Nilpeter.
Eriksen says the initial strategy is to offer the new press line to Indian label converters, but down the line when capacity allows it, he could see sales throughout the region.
“The Indian manufacturing operation will build on the lessons learned from Nilpeter’s Brazilian manufacturing joint venture. In many ways we will duplicate that operation,” Eriksen says.
Jakob Landberg, Nilpeter’s sales and marketing director, comments: “We have strengthened our position heavily in North and South America since we added Nilpeter USA in Cincinnati. Likewise in Brazil with our daughter company in Sao Paulo, manufacturing the FBR-Line since 2007. We feel that local manufacturing in some cases is the right step to ensure a strong footprint. Our philosophy is to be local, globally.”
According to Nilpeter, there will be an extensive exchange of technical staff between Proteck in Chennai and Nilpeter in the USA during the set-up phase, but the goal is to have a self supporting facility in India.
